Privacy Policy

1. Introduction & Commitment to Your Privacy

At Universal Genetics, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), we understand that genetic testing is among the most personal decisions you can make. Protecting your sensitive data is not only our business—it’s our promise. We treat all information provided by our clients as health-related confidential information and adhere to the strictest standards of privacy, security, and ethical conduct throughout every step of your testing journey.

2. Information We Collect

To deliver precise and reliable DNA testing services, we collect:

  • Personal Information: Such as your name, address, phone number, email, and other details you provide during test application or while contacting us.

  • Test-Related Information: Data essential for processing your DNA test (e.g., sample collection details and case-specific documentation). We only extract and process the genetic markers necessary for your requested test, ensuring that no additional or unrelated genetic data is collected.

  • Payment Details: Information required to process transactions, handled through secure payment systems.

  • Technical Data: Information automatically gathered via cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies (e.g., IP address, browser type, and usage patterns) to help optimize your online experience.

3. DNA Processing & Sample Handling

We follow strict protocols to ensure that your genetic information is handled with the highest level of security:

  • Purpose-Driven Testing: We only analyze the specific genetic markers needed for your test (for example, paternity markers). No extraneous genetic information—such as health conditions, ancestry, or other traits—is extracted or stored.

  • Sample Retention & Destruction: Your DNA samples are securely stored for a limited period (in accordance with legal and accreditation requirements) and are permanently destroyed after this time unless you request immediate destruction post-testing.

4. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely for:

  • Processing and managing your DNA testing services accurately and efficiently.

  • Communicating test results, service updates, and customer support messages.

  • Enhancing and personalizing your website experience.

  • Complying with applicable legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

  • Ensuring that only the necessary data is retained for authorized functions.

5. Confidentiality, Employee Training & Controlled Access

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of our operations:

  • Confidential Client Data: All information received is treated as health-related confidential information.

  • Employee Access: Access to client data is strictly controlled through our eDNA system. At the Laboratory Director’s discretion, only the information required to report laboratory results is made available to employees.

  • Annual Training: Our Director of Operations or Laboratory Director conducts annual confidentiality training—and additional sessions for new hires—to ensure every employee understands their responsibilities.

  • Employee Responsibilities: Every employee is required to:

    • Share confidential information only with authorized persons.

    • Secure confidential data from casual observation.

    • Release information only as authorized by the director and in compliance with state and federal laws.

    • Properly destroy obsolete information.

    • Maintain only the information necessary to perform their duties.

    • Exhibit professional behavior free from discrimination, abuse, or adverse actions toward any client.

6. Disclosure & Sharing of Information

Your data is handled with absolute discretion:

  • Controlled Sharing: Your test results and personal information are never sold or rented to third parties. They are shared only with our accredited laboratories and trusted partners to facilitate your testing process.

  • Legal Requirements: Information may be disclosed if required by law or to comply with legal proceedings.

  • Consent-Based Sharing: We will only share your data beyond these parameters with your explicit consent.

7. Data Security & Controlled Access

We employ industry-leading measures to safeguard your information:

  • Encryption & Secure Storage: All data is protected through advanced encryption methods and secure storage systems.

  • Access Controls: Strict access privileges (via our eDNA system) ensure that only authorized personnel may view your confidential information.

  • Secure Results Delivery: Test results are delivered exclusively through our encrypted online portal or via direct mail to a verified recipient—never by phone.

8. Cookies & Website Analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to enhance functionality and improve your experience. You may adjust your browser settings to decline cookies; however, this might affect certain features of our site.

9. Your Rights & Choices

You retain control over your personal information:

  • Access & Correction: You can request copies of, or corrections to, the personal information we hold.

  • Deletion Requests: Subject to legal obligations, you may request the deletion of your data.

  • Opt-Out: You can opt out of marketing communications at any time.

10. Compliance with Applicable Laws

We comply with all relevant federal, state, and international data protection laws. Our practices are regularly reviewed to ensure they meet or exceed industry standards and legal requirements.

11. Data Retention & Destruction

We maintain your personal information only as long as necessary to provide our services and meet legal requirements. Once the information is obsolete, it is destroyed securely and appropriately.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Significant changes will be communicated by posting the revised policy on our website along with the updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy regularly.
